Hogs Close Mixed on Tuesday

Lean hog futures posted mixed Tuesday trade of 32 cents lower to a dime higher in the front months. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $112.02 on Tuesday. The CME Lean Hog Index was down $1.18 at $108.33 on July 3.

USDA’s Tuesday afternoon FOB plant pork cutout value was back down $1.48 at $112.01. All primals were reported lower. Tuesday’s estimated hog slaughter was 480,000 head by the USDA, with the week to date total at 958,000. That was up 17,000 head from last week and 17,394 head larger than last year.
